It provides support for the minister and lay preachers and aims to encourage more people, young and old, to offer their gifts in music, reading, drama and prayer.

The meeting is open to anyone interested in this crucial part of church life.

PRAYER FOR THE MONTH

April

This month’s prayer comes from God’s Passion: Praying with Mark and is a reflection on Mark’s account of Jesus’ resurrection (Mark 16.1 – 8), his final chapter that ends so abruptly and mysteriously.

Risen Jesus,

You stun me with your absence.

You cannot be entombed

in rock or stone

in ecclesiastical structures or scholarly debates

scientific definition or doctrinal niceties.

You cannot be bound by Satan’s powers or human evils.

You are the Strong One

who turns the tables on death itself and all wickedness

I have followed you though these gospel pages

but you are not trapped within its words.

You walk free,

beyond its letters

beyond its control.

You are not in this book,

but let loose on an unsuspecting world.

You are no tame lion.

You cannot be grasped or controlled,

only followed

met in the Galilees of the workmen and the wounded,

the frail and the fallible;

met among the ordinary

children, women and men;

met in the towns and cities,

hills and valleys of the here and now.

Glory to you, dear Teacher.

Glory to you, the Servant One.

Glory to you, my risen Lord,

here and now and for ever.   Amen.
