congregationWorship

The worship of God is at the heart of the church's life; it is as we open ourselves to God's Loving Spirit and the example of Jesus that we are inspired and strengthened to serve our neighbour and pray for our world.

Worship Group

Once again, the Worship Group members have been kept busy throughout the year planning for, and putting into practice, many worship related activities including a quiet day, music, pulpit supply and arrangements for special services.

As you will know, The URC Vision4Life programme has now entered its second year as we begin considering different ways into prayer.  Fifty copies of the booklet “praying our days” have been received by the church so, if you would like one to use, please contact us.  You can also download a “soft” copy of this and much more material from the URC special website www.vision4life.org.uk.

Terry has organised a church weekend away from the 5th to the 7th of November 2010.  This will be at Ivy House in Warminster and is open to all who wish to attend.  For further details of topic, cost and travel arrangements please contact either Terry or myself.

We continue to meet most months and, if you wish to, you would be most welcome to come along, even if for one meeting only.  Who knows, you may then decide to join us on a more permanent basis.

I would like to end by once more thanking everyone who has contributed in any way to the worship of our Church during the year.

The service is followed by coffee and fellowship.

Prayer Meeting

Prayer Meeting

As part of our worship we hold weekly prayers in the vestry on Tuesday at 9.30 am.  This short time of silent and open prayer is immensely valuable in our church’s life, enabling us to support in prayer, people and situations mentioned in our prayer request book.  We welcome anyone to join us either regularly or from time to time.   The readings used are published in the magazine enabling those unable to attend to use them at home.

Communion

Communion

We hold a monthly communion service on the second Thursday of the month at 10.30 am in the hall lounge.  This simple half-hour act of worship is valued highly by those who attend.  The service is followed with refreshments.   It is especially aimed at those who are unable to attend church on a Sunday.   Transport can be provided (if you need this please contact the Minister).

Communion is also taken to a number of people, who are unable to get to church, in their homes; if you know of someone who is housebound and would appreciate this, again please contact the Minister.

Music

Music

Music is a very important part of the church’s offering of worship.   Primarily this is through the congregational singing of hymns (a variety of old and new through our hymnbook Rejoice and Sing and other sources such as the Iona Community).   The church has an adult choir that leads this singing and regularly contributes anthems.  Singing is accompanied by church organ, piano and other instrumentalists.  The children’s group, Pilots, also sings on special occasions.

The Adult Choir Rehearsals are on Wednesdays at 7.15 pm in the hall lounge.   For more information please contact our organist and choir leader Eric Warne (02380253900).
